Personal Thoughts on Physical Limits, Complexity, City Planning, and Community

This post will be very short with lots of links to music videos. I have been obsessed with the animated musical from Netflix, KPop Demon Hunters, since I watched it in July of 2025. I got a Netflix subscription just for a month to watch it.

On October 7th, the three musicians who are the singing voices for the three main characters of KPop Demon Hunters had their first live performance of the hit song “Golden” on the Tonight Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=illifpkHW98. Their performance segment starts at 13m18s after the interview. This clip only has the singing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y-ViyUk7Dk.

The beginning sketch is a tribute to “How It’s Done”, the opening music video for the movie. Animated violence warning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGsevnbItdU.

The official animated lyric video of Golden is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yebNIHKAC4A. You will note that it is on a higher pitch than the live performance.

For another song from the movie that is fun and moving, try “What It Sounds Like”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3WxYln6NWk

Many of the artists are Korean-American or Korean-Canadian, including the director, Maggie Kang. Their backstory, which includes experiences of discrimination and failure, adds more depth to the movie, which I find to be subversive and meant for people of all ages.
